Naruto Shippuden – Movies and OVAs in Chronological Order
The Naruto franchise features a large number of movies covering the first, second, and third parts of Masashi Kishimoto’s work.
In today’s post, we bring you the complete list of feature films starring the future Seventh Hokage. However, it is important to note that some of these movies are not legally available for streaming, while others can be found on Google Play.
Naruto Classic and Shippuden Movies in Chronological Order
Naruto the Movie: Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow (2004)
The first Naruto movie, this feature takes place between episodes 101 and 105 and happens during the Chunin Exam. In it, Naruto and his team embark on a special mission to the Land of Snow.
Their objective is to escort actress Yukie Fujikaze to the Land of Snow, where her next movie will be filmed. However, the team soon discovers that Yukie is actually a princess, and her necklace holds a valuable secret desired by many.
Another interesting aspect of this movie is that we see Kakashi in action as an ANBU.
Naruto the Movie: Legend of the Stone of Gelel (2005)
This movie takes place before Sasuke leaves Konoha to join Orochimaru. In it, Naruto, Sakura, and Shikamaru embark on a mission to return a lost pet to a village when a mysterious knight appears to confront them.
During their search for the animal, the group is attacked by the mysterious knight, leading them to discover that the village they are working for possesses a power different from chakra: the Gelel Stones.
One of the most interesting aspects of this Naruto movie is that it introduces other nationalities, resembling European-style countries that do not use chakra in combat but instead rely on advanced weaponry.
This movie takes place before episode 106 of the Naruto Classic anime.
Naruto the Movie: Guardians of the Crescent Moon Kingdom (2006)
The last movie of the first phase of the anime, this story takes place after episode 196, shortly after Sasuke deserts the Hidden Leaf Village to gain more power by training with Orochimaru. Scenes from the movie can be seen in the openings and endings of episodes 197 to 199.
In this movie, Naruto, Kakashi, Sakura, and Rock Lee are assigned the mission of protecting Michiru, the Prince of the Land of the Moon, as he travels the world. During the trip, the prince buys the tiger Sham and an entire circus, which ends up under the protection of Naruto’s team.
As the mission progresses, the prince’s homeland faces a coup d’état, making him a prime target for political intrigue.
Naruto Shippuden the Movie (2007)
This movie takes place right after episode 53, when Naruto, Sakura, Sai, and Yamato return to Konoha.
In the story, the ninjas of Konoha try to stop Moryo, a demon who plans to conquer the Shinobi world. The only threat to Moryo’s plan is Shion, a priestess capable of sealing the demon’s spirit once again. Naruto and his friends must protect Shion so that she can stop the impending catastrophe.
This is yet another Naruto movie that received a manga adaptation.
Naruto Shippuden: Bonds (2008)
This movie takes place around episode 111, when Orochimaru is ill and Sasuke is preparing to kill him.
In the story, a mysterious group of ninjas called the Sora-nin from the Land of Sky launches a surprise attack on Konoha. Their reason for doing so is revenge—Konoha nearly destroyed the Land of Sky during the Third Shinobi War, but some survivors remained and are now seeking retribution against Konoha and the Land of Fire.
Temporarily, Sasuke and Naruto form an unexpected alliance to stop the invasion.
Naruto Shippuden: The Will of Fire (2009)
This 10th-anniversary movie celebrates a decade since Naruto first aired on television. The story takes place after episode 89 of Naruto Shippuden, influenced by the events of the Hidan and Kakuzu arc.
In this film, ninjas with Kekkei Genkai begin disappearing mysteriously from their respective villages. Team Kakashi, which at the time consisted of Naruto, Sakura, and Sai, is sent to investigate the situation but soon finds itself under attack by mysterious creatures.
One of the highlights of this movie is that it explores Kakashi’s role during the Third Shinobi World War in greater depth.
Naruto Shippuden: The Lost Tower (2010)
This movie takes place after Jiraiya’s death, meaning it occurs after episode 143 but before Pain’s attack on Konoha.
In the story, Naruto is sent back in time through a chakra portal and finds himself in Loran City. As he encounters strange events, the question arises—can Naruto save both the past and the future?
This is the movie where Naruto meets Minato and Kushina. Additionally, it delves deeper into the past of Minato, Jiraiya, Might Guy, and other older ninjas while they were still young—something every Naruto fan wished had been explored further in the series.
Naruto Shippuden the Movie: Blood Prison (2011)
Despite timeline inconsistencies due to the anime’s storyline, this movie takes place after Naruto saves Konoha from Pain.
In this story, Naruto is accused of attempting to assassinate the Raikage and is sentenced to a maximum-security prison—Hozuki Castle (which later reappears in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations during the Mujina Bandits arc). Escape is considered impossible, but Naruto must find a way to break free.
Road to Ninja: Naruto the Movie (2012)
This movie takes place after episode 251, as Naruto has already met his mother, but before the Fourth Shinobi World War.
In this film, Naruto and Sakura are captured in a parallel world by Madara, who seeks to steal Kurama from Naruto.
Additionally, this movie features the return of former Akatsuki enemies, who had already been defeated by Naruto and Sasuke in the past.
This is a special film, as it was personally written and designed by Masashi Kishimoto, the creator of Naruto, making it the first of these movies to have his direct involvement.
The Last: Naruto the Movie (2014)
This movie takes place after episode 500 of Naruto Shippuden.
The story follows Hanabi Hyuga, Hinata’s younger sister, who is kidnapped by Toneri Otsutsuki. Naruto must team up with his allies to rescue her while also dealing with his growing feelings for Hinata.
Naruto’s abilities are put to the test when he loses his most powerful form—the Sage of the Six Paths Mode.
Meanwhile, on Earth, the Five Kage unite to prevent the world’s destruction at the hands of Toneri Otsutsuki.
This is the final movie set within Naruto Shippuden and the first truly canon film in the series.
OVA – Boruto: Naruto the Movie – The Day Naruto Became Hokage
A 10-minute short film depicting the day Naruto officially became Hokage. This takes place before Boruto: Naruto the Movie.
In this OVA, we see the famous scene where Himawari knocks Naruto out after Boruto provokes her.
Boruto: Naruto the Movie (2015)
This movie takes place after episode 50 of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, but it has become somewhat obsolete since the Chunin Exam arc was later adapted and expanded in the anime.
In this film, the threat of Momoshiki and Kinshiki Otsutsuki emerges during the Chunin Exams. Naruto is kidnapped by them, prompting Sasuke, Boruto, and the four remaining Kage to embark on a mission to rescue him.
